Centenary Competition

Open to non-professional instrumentalists and singers of at least ABRSM grade 8 standard. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of £1000 and be invited to perform with the Derby Concert Orchestra in its October 2008 concert. The preliminary round will be held in Derby during the last week of February 2008 when four finalists will be selected. The final will be held in the Darwin Suite, Derby on 26th June 2008. Centenary Concert

A centenary concert by the Opera Babes will be held in Derby Cathedral at 7:30 pm on 14th June 2008. Karen England, one of the opera babes, originates from Derby and entered the Derby Arts Festival whilst at school. The programme, ticket prices and availability will be published in due course.   

Centenary Thanksgiving Service

On 6th July, after the 2008 centenary festival, a thanksgiving evensong will be held in Derby Cathedral. The service will feature music composed by people involved with the festival and lessons will be read by winners of the Speech and Drama section of the 2008 festival.  

History of Derby Arts Festival

The history of Derby Arts Festival is currently being researched. A limited version of the history will be included in the Centenary brochure. The full history will be published on this website. 

Centenary Brochure

To commemorate the centenary a small brochure is under development. This will cover all the centenary events mentioned on this web page in greater detail as well as other events taking place in Derby during 2008. A brief history of the Derby Arts Festival will also be included. There is opportunity to advertise in this publication. Anyone requiring more information on advertising should email David Walker
